Finally....the toungue taco

For quite some time, when Grace was younger we tried to teach her how to do a tongue taco.
Around the time she was one she would try really hard, but as you can see, it was not really working for her. Now, at two and a half, she has mastered it.
All I have to say is with skills like that, she is sure to go far in life.

Our pets made us breakfast

I love functional pets. Like dogs that stay outside and protect the property. Or cats that eat the gophers and rodents. It just seems so much more logical to have animals that serve a purpose.

The Chickens are finally earning their keep around here. Aside from eating the bugs from the yard (which is nice) they have kicked up the egg production. I think they are supposed to lay one a day once they get into full fledged egg production. Yesterday we got 8 (we have 8 hens) so I think we are getting close.

Having that many eggs around has spurred us on to eating more eggs. I am looking for egg eating ideas, as I think fried and scrambled eggs may get old. So PLEASE, if you have a good way to eat eggs, leave me a comment (or send me an email) to let me know.

Also if you live in the area, and would like some fresh free range eggs, let me know. :)

Two of the hens are bantams and lay smaller eggs. Two others are Ameaucanas, and lay blueish greenish eggs.

Really, who knew eggs could be so exciting?

Cousin time

Last Wednesday my mom, Maria, Ann and Elena came up for a visit. Although it was her first time at my house (since her birth) Elena slept through most of the visit. She was a good sport and let us take many pictures of her while she slept though. She even let her big cousin Grace hold her. What a trouper. We took tons of pictures, and so I boiled it down to my very favorites, which for me was quite a challenge. :)

My mom took a couple so I could be in them. I love my sisters.

Latest Quilt

I just finished another quilt. This was actually the first time I have made money making a quilt. A friend of a friends paid me to make a quilt from her sons baby clothes. It was a lot of work, but I was pretty pleased with how it came out, plus the extra cash was really nice. So if you know of anyone who has a lot of baby clothes and is willing to pay for a timeless heirloom, let me know. Here are a couple pictures of the finished product.

Elena's baby shower

Last Friday we had a baby shower for Elena and Ann. Ann put on a wonderful baby shower for Grace and I when Grace was born, and has been such a great sister, I owed her the best party I could throw.

Ann had the idea to ask people to bring books instead of clothes, as between the clothes she has already received and Grace's clothes and the other hand me downs she has gotten, Elena is pretty set in the clothes department. Books on the other hand are always good to have and it is nice to have books that others have read and recommend.

I was in charge of the decorations, invitations, and program of events. Maria was in charge of food preparation and presentation and my mom was the director of food, grocery shopping, and housecleaning. Daniel was the grunt work who set up the tables for us and cleaned that back yard. All in all, I thought everything looked great. And since I had so much fun with the decorating, I thought I would share pictures of it with you.

There were four desserts total, but I only got pictures of these two. I had the strawberry one and it really was as good as it looks.
I love parties and catching up with friends. Most of the people there were from the Chapel. There is Ann and Elena's table.
I sat at the non-Chapel friends table. Sitting next to my mom and Grace is my Aunt Joan. Across the table from my mom are my mom's BFF Vicky and our friend Donna, who has been a good family friend for years.
One of the kids tables.Elena slept through most of her party.

We played a couple games and our friend Donna shared some verses from Proverbs about teaching your kids to follow God, not only by your words but also by your example.
Grace was super excited about gift opening time. I think she assumes presents are for her. She helped Ann get the presents and open them for a while, but there were a lot of gifts so she eventually got bored and wandered off.

So we were all super excited about my mom's best friend and her family coming to the shower. They are really more like family than friends becuase we lived with them for a while and have known them as long as an of us can remember. One of the things that is great about them, is that they have kids the same ages as the kids in our family so we each always had a buddy. We are all still friends, which is super fun as we grow older. Brittany (the oldest in their family) has three kids and although I saw them all last summer, this was Grace's first time meeting them.
Here is Maria (and her buddy Emily) each holding each other's niece; Grace and "Mel" (Amelia).

Here area ll the girls (except Rachel, who is my age and lives in the Caribbean). This makes three generations of friends.

I coordinated my outfit to match Elena, just in case we got a chance to take a picture together. :)
